I work at NASA\JSC in south Houston, TX. Mr. Whitney came to visit the center today and I saw him and his assistants by the elevators. Not wanting to be rude and interrupt I choose to skirt the group and admire him from afar. Much to our amazement He made it a point to walk around the group and shake hands before my elevator left. Maybe it was because I spotted him at the long end of a hallway and told my co-worker "that's Larry the Cable Guy" about 4 times. Guess he couldn't help but overhear my loud Texas drawl echoing down these hallowed halls.
He was gracious and polite, me, stuttered like fool and forgot my co-workers name. I laugh about it now, even though it happened 30 minutes ago. Thank God for old age and memory puffs.
This was a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy, anxious atmosphere. For a moment I forgot that we are losing our jobs, homes, and way of life. I just saw a kind man enjoying something really cool that I've worked in for 25 years. The history, power and magnificents of human space travel.
